South Korean Man Lures Ex-Girlfriend Outside to Stab Her

Christine Jung Views

A man in his 20s has been arrested by the police for stabbing and killing his ex-girlfriend.

On June 9, the Hanam Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had requested an arrest warrant for a man on charges of stabbing and killing his ex-girlfriend.

According to the police, the man stabbed a woman in her 20s to death near an apartment in Hanam at around 11:20 PM on June 7.

He lured the woman outside the apartment by saying, “I have something to tell you,” and then committed the crime with a weapon he had prepared in advance.

It was found that the man and the woman had recently broken up after dating.

The victim fell to the ground after being stabbed by the man.

He fled the scene immediately after the crime and was arrested about 0.6 miles away from the crime scene about 10 minutes later after police were dispatched following witness reports.

The woman was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away.

The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident with the man.

According to a report on Analysis of Women Murdered by Male Partners in Close Relationships through Media Reports, released by the Korean Women’s Hotline in March, 49 women were killed in domestic murders and 158 women survived attempted murders from January 1 to December 31 last year.

As incidents of dating abuse leading to murder continue to occur among couples in relationships, there are claims that legal amendments, such as stricter punishment for attackers, are needed to prevent an increasing number of victims.
