A 20-year-old woman, who is an online streamer, was arrested after causing a drunk driving accident and livestreaming the incident on her social media accounts.

On Tuesday, the Incheon Bupyeong Police announced that they had charged the woman, a social media personality, with violating traffic laws, specifically drunk driving.

According to police, the woman allegedly crashed her vehicle into another car while driving under the influence around 12:40 AM on Friday in Bupyeong, a district in Incheon, South Korea.

Following the crash, she immediately turned on a live stream, admitting, “I drove drunk. The police are here,” and making other controversial comments such as, “The victim was trying to extort money,” and “I won’t settle. I’ll just go to jail.”

Furthermore, she made disturbing remarks, saying, “I’ll pay the fine to the government, but I won’t pay those trashy victims,” and joking, “I should just end it since the damage is already done.”

When viewers criticized her behavior, she responded defensively, saying, “Aren’t people still alive? No one got hurt,” and “Am I the only one who drives drunk? Everyone does it,” before challenging her critics by asking, “Why are you acting so righteous?”

The livestream also captured her taking a breathalyzer test. Her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at the time of the accident was 0.2333%, which is well above the legal limit and would result in a suspension of her driver’s license in many places, including South Korea.

Police are considering additional charges under South Korea’s Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Crimes for reckless driving causing injury.

Insight

The police continue to investigate the details of the accident, reviewing evidence such as CCTV footage from the scene and the vehicle’s black box data.

A police spokesperson stated, “We will assess the severity of the victim’s injuries and determine whether charges for reckless driving causing injury under the Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Crimes will apply.”

Meanwhile, the footage from the woman’s livestream has gone viral across various online communities, sparking widespread outrage.

Comments from social media users have included statements like, “She should be properly punished,” “The police are doing an excellent job,” “How could she livestream in that situation?” and “Drunk driving is essentially a form of murder.”
