New reports have surfaced suggesting that Kim Keon Hee, the wife of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, sought counsel from a fortune teller beginning in 2019, during the so-called Cho Kuk affair, and continued consulting the fortune teller up until the luxury handbag scandal that erupted in December 2023, following her husband’s inauguration.
According to Hankyoreh 21 on Sunday, fortune teller Ryu, a well-known figure for advising politicians, revealed in an interview that Kim Keon Hee has sought guidance at key political moments. Ryu added, “I believe Kim has consulted with 7 to 8 other fortune tellers or spiritual advisors for advice on public decisions in various fields.”
Ryu, who has gained significant attention through public lectures, contributions to local media, and appearances on conservative YouTube channels interpreting the fortunes of politicians, first connected with Kim in 2019 when her husband, Yoon Suk Yeol, was serving as South Korea’s Prosecutor General.
During the height of the “Cho Kuk scandal” in 2019, Ryu appeared on a popular YouTube channel where he analyzed Yoon’s fortune and stated, “Prosecutor General Yoon was born with the destiny of a president.” After viewing this video, Kim reportedly reached out to Ryu to inquire whether they could meet.
Ryu shared that their connection began when Kim contacted him and they met at her residence in AcroVista, a high-end residential complex in the Seocho district of Seoul. It was there that Ryu provided fortune-telling for both Kim and her husband, Yoon.
Ryu also claimed that he remembers Kim’s exact birth date, time, and other personal details, stating that he could recite them from memory during the reading, demonstrating his knowledge of her life and fortune.
In his interview, Ryu revealed that he had given Kim Keon Hee advice at least five or six times. According to Ryu, Kim would often contact him through a private Telegram chat with an automatic message deletion timer, asking for his guidance on political and personal matters.
In 2020, during the intense public dispute between then-Prosecutor General Yoon and Justice Minister Choo Mi Ae, Kim allegedly reached out to Ryu to inquire about Yoon’s future. Ryu claimed he reassured her by saying, “His fortune is favorable, so he will prevail.”
Later, when Yoon resigned from his position as Prosecutor General in early 2021, Kim is said to have asked Ryu whether Yoon should run for president. Ryu reportedly advised her, “He should definitely run.”
In late 2021, as tensions escalated between Yoon and former People Power Party leader Lee Jun Seok, who had gone into hiding after refusing to fulfill his party duties, Kim allegedly sought Ryu’s advice again. Ryu reportedly told her, “Lee Jun Seok may stir up trouble, but it’s better to calm him down gently and let things pass.”
The latest reported consultation between Kim and Ryu came in December 2023, following the scandal over Kim’s alleged receipt of luxury handbags. Kim, reportedly anxious about the consequences, allegedly sent a message to Ryu asking, “Am I going to prison?”
In response, Ryu is said to have advised, “You should stay out of the public eye. You need to reflect more on yourself. Please, stay quiet for now,” adding, “The situation is certainly critical, but your energy is still strong, so you won’t end up in prison.”
The media outlet Hankyoreh 21 contacted the presidential office on Sunday to confirm Ryu’s claims, but as of this writing, no response has been received.
