An 11-year-old girl who found herself trapped in a broken elevator in China is earning praise for her remarkable calmness as she sat quietly on the floor and did her homework.
According to reports from Guangming Daily and Weibo on Friday, the girl was riding an elevator in a building in Huangshi, Hubei Province, when the elevator suddenly malfunctioned, leaving her stuck between the 7th and 8th floors.
After receiving an emergency report from a resident, local police arrived on the scene and reassured the frightened girl, telling her things like, “Don’t worry, we’ll get you out soon,” “Everything will be fine,” and “Just try to take deep breaths.”
But when a technician finally opened the elevator doors, the officers were shocked by what they saw.
Instead of panicking, the young girl sat calmly on the floor, focused on completing her homework.
Once the doors were opened, she packed her books back into her bag and walked out as if nothing had happened.
“I wasn’t too scared because I was doing my homework,” she later explained.
Later, the girl revealed, “I was a little scared when I first got stuck, so I started doing my homework. But once I started, I didn’t feel that scared anymore.”
In a situation where most adults would have struggled to stay calm, her composure has become the talk of the internet.
Seeing the young girl working in the elevator, online users reacted quickly, commenting, “She was so calm, I thought she was in a study room,” and “How can she be so peaceful?” “She’s going to do great things in the future,” “She’s more composed than most adults,” and “What a brave and smart kid.”
