A 30-year-old man known for always putting his family and others in need before himself has left an incredible legacy by donating his organs to five people, giving them a second chance at life.

According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency, Han Young Gwang became a hero on May 27 at Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital, where his organ donations saved five lives after his passing.

Han suffered a fall on his way home late on May 17 and was rushed to the hospital, but tragically never regained consciousness.

As Han’s condition worsened due to brain death, his family made the difficult decision to donate his organs, believing this selfless act would be a fitting tribute to his life of generosity and care for others.

Han Young Gwang: A Life of Generosity and Service

Han’s donations—including his heart, lungs, liver, and both kidneys—saved five individuals. The youngest of two children in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, Han was always eager to help those in need. He lived a life committed to giving, regularly donating blood and participating in charitable activities.

Standing at 193 cm (about 6’4″), Han was passionate about basketball and swimming. After earning a degree in interior design, he worked at a design firm but always prioritized his family over his ambitions.

Han’s selflessness was evident in everyday acts of love and care. He often bought clothes for his mother instead of himself and worked hard to save money so he could buy his father a new car.

Han’s impact on the people around him was clear at his funeral, where over 500 friends and acquaintances came to pay their respects. This remarkable turnout for someone so young was a testament to the connections he made during his life.

In a final act of generosity, Han’s family donated an additional 10 million won (approximately $6,966) to local charities and the government-covered funeral expenses.

Han’s mother, Hong Seong Hee, shared a heart-wrenching farewell, saying, “My son, I believe you’d be proud knowing you saved lives even at the end. They say losing a child is like burying a piece of your heart, but the pain is beyond words. I’ll persevere each day, looking forward to the day we meet again. I love you.”
