Apple has begun initial trial production of the iPhone 17 Air.
On Saturday, DigiTimes reported that Apple had recently begun the initial trial production of the iPhone 17 Air with its manufacturer partner, Foxconn.
The iPhone 17 Air has entered Foxconn’s New Product Introduction (NPI) process. NPI is the process of developing detailed plans to bring a product from design or prototype to actual production.
This process aims to verify that all manufacturing-related operations function as expected and to identify potential issues.
Approximately 6mm in thickness is expected… It will be released next year
According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be approximately 2mm thinner than the current iPhone 16 Pro model.
While the thinnest iPhone released to date was the iPhone 6 at 6.9mm, the new model is expected to be even slimmer. Its size is projected to fall between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Max.
In addition, the iPhone 17 Air will have a simplified camera system to reduce costs, making it significantly more affordable than the iPhone Pro models. It’s speculated that Apple will equip the iPhone 17 Air with its self-developed 5G modem chip.
Reports suggest that Apple has focused on integrating design components and the modem chip to minimize internal space without compromising battery life or display quality.
The iPhone 17 Air is set to launch next fall along with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on December 15th that Apple plans to launch two foldable devices.
The large foldable device is designed to function as a laptop. Its screen unfolds to approximately 19 inches, comparable to a desktop monitor.
Apple executives aim to launch it in 2026, but resolving technical problems may take another year.
