It’s been seven years since the tragic loss of SHINee’s beloved member, Jonghyun.
On Wednesday, SM Entertainment, the agency behind SHINee, honored the late artist by sharing a touching photo of Jonghyun on stage, accompanied by the heartfelt message, “We will always love you.” The tribute serves as a reminder of his lasting impact on fans worldwide.
Jonghyun was found in a state of cardiac arrest at a residence in Seoul’s Cheongdam-dong on December 18, 2017. He was just 27 years old at the time. His sudden passing sent shockwaves through the K-pop community and left fans and fellow celebrities devastated.
Despite the years, Jonghyun’s memory remains vivid in his fans and SHINee members’ hearts. They continue to remember and honor him on his birth and death anniversaries every year.
In a particularly moving gesture this year, the remaining SHINee members revealed they had crafted five friendship rings, including one for Jonghyun, to symbolize their unbreakable bond.
Jonghyun debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008. He quickly became one of K-pop’s brightest stars, with iconic hits like “Replay,” “Lucifer,” “Juliette,” “Dream Girl,” and “Love Like Oxygen.” His vocal prowess and artistry earned him a dedicated global following. In 2015, he also made a successful solo debut, showcasing his talents as a singer-songwriter with tracks like “Déjà-Boo” and “She Is.”
In the wake of his passing, Jonghyun’s family founded the Shiny Foundation, a non-profit organization that uses the royalties from his music to support young, aspiring artists, continuing his legacy of nurturing new talent.
