Taeil (real name Moon Taeil), a former member of the K-pop group NCT, has been indicted without detention on charges of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman, along with two accomplices.
On Tuesday, legal sources confirmed that the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit for Crimes Against Women and Children, led by Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-hye, indicted Taeil and two others last Friday on charges of special rape under South Korea’s Sexual Violence Punishment Act.
The three men allegedly assaulted the woman, who was intoxicated, in June of last year, prompting an investigation into the charges of special rape.
In August, Taeil was questioned by the Seoul Bangbae Police before the case was forwarded to prosecutors. While the police sought an arrest warrant, the court denied it, citing the suspects’ admission of guilt.
Taeil, who debuted as a member of NCT in 2016, was active in the group and its subunit, NCT 127.
In October 2024, SM Entertainment, the company behind NCT, terminated Taeil’s contract following the sexual assault allegations.
