ILLIT’s Wonhee, recently shared her unfortunate experience of being scammed while purchasing popular Labubu merchandise, sparking sympathy from fans worldwide.
On Monday, Wonhee took to a fan platform to reveal, “I got scammed,” and posted a photo of the item in question.

The image she shared showed a keychain featuring Labubu, the globally popular character. However, the item’s poor quality was immediately apparent, making it clear that it was a counterfeit rather than an authentic product.
Disappointed, Wonhee commented, “This can’t be real, right? It’s so absurd,” adding, “The box looked so legit, though,” expressing her frustration and disbelief at the situation.
The Global Phenomenon of Labubu
Labubu is a trendy character toy line created by the Chinese toy company Pop Mart. Designed by Kasing Lung, an art toy designer originally from Hong Kong and now based in the Netherlands, Labubu is recognized for its distinctive features, including rabbit-like long ears, large eyes, and a mouth with nine sharp teeth.
Since its creation, Labubu has gained massive global popularity, particularly after celebrities like BLACKPINK’s Lisa and global icon Rihanna were spotted with Labubu products on their social media accounts. This celebrity favor helped elevate Labubu’s fame beyond China, with the character quickly becoming a hit in markets across Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East. However, with the rise in demand has come a surge in counterfeit products, making it essential for consumers to be extra cautious when purchasing.
In other news, ILLIT released its third mini-album bomb on June 16, and it has been a major commercial success. The album sold 401,674 copies in its first week (June 16-22) and claimed the top spot on the weekly album charts.
