PSG Star Lee Kang In Faces Racist Slur from Fan During Training

Sarah Lim Views

Lee Kang In, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France’s Ligue 1, has once again been subjected to racial abuse.

A recent video posted on X (formerly Twitter) captured a fan at the PSG training ground giving high-fives to players as they passed by. When it was Lee Kang In’s turn, the fan shouted, “Allez mon Chinois” (Let’s go, my Chinese).

The video is reported to have been filmed during a public training session on October 25.

The term Chino translates to Chinese, and in Western countries, referring to all Asians as Chinese is considered a racial slur.

Comments on the video included statements such as Lee Kang In is not Chinese; he’s Korean, Respect Lee Kang In, and It’s shocking to witness racial discrimination at the training ground.

French media outlets have strongly condemned the fan’s behavior. The soccer magazine Onze Mondial stated, “Lee Kang In was subjected to racist abuse by a PSG fan during training. This hateful behavior is unacceptable in soccer.”

The French daily newspaper Ouest-France added, “A fan referred to Lee Kang In as Chinese. This incident will provoke outrage among Paris Saint-Germain fans.”

Last Year: Racial Slur from Mallorca Coach

This is not the first time Lee Kang In has faced racism during his time in Europe. In May 2023, while playing for Mallorca in La Liga, then-coach Javier Aguirre called him Chino.

Meanwhile, Lee Kang In’s team, PSG, will play an away match against Marseille on Monday in the 9th round of the 2024-2025 season of Ligue 1.
