A mother in her 40s has been charged with the murder of her 6-month-old twin daughters, citing extreme parenting stress as a factor in the tragic incident.
The twins, both only 6 months old, were found lifeless in their home in Yeosu, South Korea after their mother confessed to the crime.
On Monday, local police in Yeosu announced the arrest of the woman on suspicion of murdering her infant daughters. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
According to the police, the woman is accused of killing her 6-month-old twins in their home in the Ungcheon-dong area of Yeosu earlier that morning. After the crime, she left the residence and later contacted police from a location about 30 kilometers (approximately 18 miles) away in the nearby Hwajeong-myeon district to confess to the killings.
In her statement to authorities, the mother reportedly blamed her husband, claiming, “He didn’t help with childcare.”
At approximately 12:40 p.m., responding to her confession, police arrived at the home and found the two deceased children, one in the master bedroom and the other in a smaller room. No weapons were found at the scene.
During questioning, the woman allegedly told investigators, “I was overwhelmed by parenting stress,” and added that her husband did not contribute enough to the care of their children.
The crime is believed to have taken place shortly after her husband left for work. Police say she reportedly used a blanket during the incident.
Autopsies are being conducted on the twins to determine the exact cause of death. The authorities plan to request an arrest warrant for the mother as the investigation continues.
