A 17-year-old girl in China is facing severe tooth decay after replacing water with soda in her daily routine. According to reports from Bastille Post, the teenager from Wuhan in Hubei Province had been drinking at least five bottles of cola a day instead of water.
The problem began when she neglected to brush her teeth properly before bed. After a year of this habit, her teeth began to turn black and thin due to the acidic erosion caused by the soda.
By October, her teeth became so sensitive that even drinking warm water or feeling a cool breeze would cause her excruciating pain.
15 Decayed Teeth: A Smile-Shattering Reality
Eventually, the girl sought treatment at a university hospital’s dental clinic. The X-rays revealed a grim reality: fifteen of her teeth had decayed due to the constant consumption of soda.
In the photos shared by the clinic, her front teeth were so severely damaged that nearly half of them were unrecognizable. Even the teeth that didn’t have visible cavities had turned a sickly brown color.
The dentist explained, “Carbonated drinks contain acidic components that can erode the tooth surface over time. Prolonged consumption can lead to tooth sensitivity, making everyday eating painful. If left untreated, it can cause cavities, toothaches, and in the worst-case scenario, tooth loss.”
The dentist developed a comprehensive two-month treatment plan. Fluoride treatments were applied to the discolored areas that weren’t yet affected by cavities. Filling materials were used for the cavities.
Some teeth also required root canal treatments. After two months of strict care, her teeth were restored to their natural white and healthy appearance.
She also quit her soda habit, significantly improving her overall health. With her newly restored smile, she gained the confidence to smile and speak freely in public, something she hadn’t felt comfortable doing before.
