On the day before the expiration of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s arrest warrant (Monday), protests supporting and opposing his arrest continued near the presidential residence in Yongsan, Seoul. As rally participants expressed frustration with a lack of bathroom facilities, a priest from a local monastery stepped in to help.
On Monday, a user on X shared a post with a photo and caption that read, “Wait… a priest is holding a glow stick and guiding people to the monastery bathroom.”
The photo quickly gained attention. It shows the priest in traditional monastic attire, holding a brightly glowing lightstick and leading rally-goers to restroom facilities.
BTS Lightstick Used by Priest to Guide Citizens, Photo Goes Viral
Another user on X shared a black-and-white photo, writing, “I saw this too.” In the picture, citizens are lining up behind the priest, holding the glowing lightstick.
The scene, with the priest’s old-fashioned robes and the modern lightstick, created a striking contrast that many online compared to a cinematic moment. The lightstick the priest was holding is reportedly the Army Bomb, a glowing BTS lightstick used by the K-pop group’s fans during their concerts.
This unexpected scene occurred at the Conventual Franciscan Monastery in Hannam-dong, Yongsan.
Earlier reports indicated that the Conventual Franciscan Monastery had opened its restrooms and shelter for the citizens attending the Urgent Action to Demand the Immediate Arrest of Yoon Suk Yeol rally, which took place near the presidential residence.
The photo of the priest quickly went viral, sparking reactions from online users, who remarked that the glowing lightstick looked like a torch.
Reactions in the comments included, “He looks like Gandalf from ‘The Lord of the Rings.'” “His attire is so old-fashioned, it feels like a scene from the Bible.” “It feels like being guided to a sacred place.” “This will win a Pulitzer Prize.” and “This is salvation.”
Meanwhile, protests both for and against Yoon’s arrest and impeachment have continued for four consecutive days near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong.
