James Yoo Views

Known for a role in a comedy show, Comedy Big League, personal trainer Hwang Chul Soon is in hot water again. After a controversy over assaulting his wife, he’s now facing trial for allegedly punching another woman.

According to the legal community, on May 23rd, Hwang was indicted in February on charges of assault, causing injury and property damage. He is currently on trial in the Seoul Central District Court.

The incident occurred on October 16th, 2023, in an outdoor parking lot of a building in Yeosu, South Jeolla.

During the incident, Hwang was arguing with the victim. Hwang allegedly lost his temper and punched the victim around the head more than 20 times while kicking her in the face multiple times.

It is reported that Hwang continued to assault the victim by grabbing her hair, dragging her to his car, and forcing her into the passenger seat.

He is also accused of smashing the victim’s mobile phone on the ground and denting the driver’s side door with his fist. Hwang’s assault resulted in the victim requiring three weeks of treatment for fractures and other injuries.

It was also confirmed that on August 1st of the same year, Hwang repeatedly assaulted the victim by hitting her on the head and pulling her hair at his house.

Hwang was involved in several assault cases previously.

In 2015, he was prosecuted for assaulting a man in his 30s at a restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul. At the time, Hwang claimed mutual assault, but the court ruled it a one-sided assault and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with a one-year probation.

During his probation, he was also caught driving under the influence.

Later, in November 2021, Hwang was charged with assaulting two men in their 20s who were filming him on the street in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and breaking their mobile phones.

The victims submitted a non-prosecution statement, resulting in Hwang being fined approx. $4,200.

On March 2023, a video of Hwang assaulting his wife surfaced online, causing a stir. At the time, his wife claimed that the assault video was staged, but she later revealed that she had indeed been assaulted by Hwang.

She has since announced that she is in the process of divorcing him.
