Dua Lipa arrived in South Korea days ago for her first concert in the country in over six years. However, her plans were uncertain following Tuesday night’s declaration of martial law.

On Tuesday evening, at 10:25 PM local time, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol delivered an urgent televised address from the presidential office in Yongsan. In his speech, he stated, “Our government is paralyzed, and our citizens are increasingly distressed. This blatant act of sedition tramples on the constitutional order of our free republic and disrupts the legitimate state institutions established by our constitution and laws. The welfare of our people has been disregarded, and the government has been brought to a standstill due to the opposition’s reckless pursuit of impeachment and special investigations.”

Yoon further declared, “Through this martial law, I will rebuild and safeguard our free republic, which is teetering on the brink of collapse. I will decisively eradicate the treasonous forces that have been wreaking havoc on our nation. I pledge to swiftly eliminate these anti-state elements and restore normalcy to our country.”

In a rapid response, the South Korean National Assembly convened an emergency session at 1:02 AM on Wednesday. All 190 members present unanimously passed a resolution calling for the immediate lifting of martial law. Within hours, the state of emergency was officially rescinded.

Meanwhile, unaware of the political crisis around her, Dua Lipa continued to promote her Seoul concert and pop-up store opening on social media. The British pop singer was scheduled to perform at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Wednesday and Thursday as part of her Dua Lipa – Radical Optimism Tour. This concert marked her first performance in South Korea in over seven years.

Dua Lipa’s last performance in South Korea, in 2018, was a hit, with fans praising her flawless live vocals and electrifying stage presence. After a seven-year hiatus, her return generated immense excitement among her Korean fanbase.

Sources suggest that Dua Lipa has already arrived in Korea and is preparing for her performances. The sudden declaration of martial law likely shocked her and her team, raising questions about whether the concerts would proceed amid the political turmoil. Currently, there has been no official word on whether the concerts will go as planned.

In light of the national crisis, Korean singer Lee Seung Hwan announced the cancellation of his performances. His concert, Like a Black and White Movie, was set for Wednesday and Thursday at the Cloud Under Theater in Seoul.
