Rosé, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group BLACKPINK, has opened up about her struggles with depression and the toll that her intense work ethic has taken on her.

On Thursday, a video titled “BangPink in Your Area🎶 | It’s a Big Bang and BLACKPINK Crossover” was posted on Daesung’s YouTube channel, Zip Daesung. During the episode, Rosé shared personal insights into her mental health, revealing, “I got shingles during the COVID-19 pandemic,” explaining that the stress stemmed from a fear of being forgotten by BLACKPINK’s fans. “I thought, What if no one remembers BLACKPINK? What will I do with my life going forward?”

Reflecting on her career, she continued, “I’ve lived my life wanting to be a singer since I was 16, but I thought, At my age, I might become someone who loses their job.” This marked a vulnerable moment for Rosé as she opened up about her emotional struggles.

When Daesung asked if the stress led to her shingles, Rosé replied, “Yes. I’m telling you this for the first time, but I’ve also experienced depression. It’s like the emotional version of a cold,” drawing sympathy from fans and viewers alike.

Rosé also shared how her workaholic tendencies contributed to her mental and physical exhaustion. She revealed, “My hobby is work. I only feel a sense of accomplishment from my job, and when I rest, I don’t want to do anything else. The problem is that being a workaholic leads to constant work.”

She described her burnout as follows: “I may not be fully burned out yet, but I worked every day. I thought that was maturity, but I recently realized it wasn’t at all. My brain shut down.”

Rosé admitted feeling overwhelmed, saying, “I felt like if I continued like this, I wouldn’t be able to do what I needed to do. Because I’m the only one who can take responsibility for myself. So, I took a full day to rest.”

She added, “It was an emotion I had never felt before in my life. Until then, I had so much to do that I think I built a cement wall. No one could cross it. But the day after my rest, I found time to care for things I had neglected.”

Despite her struggles, Rosé has continued to shine professionally. Her song “APT.” (released on October 18) sparked a global sensation, topping music charts worldwide, including No. 1 on domestic Korean charts, No. 1 on Spotify in the U.S., and No. 1 on iTunes in 40 regions. The song also topped QQ Music in China.

The music video for “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars, reached over 100 million views within five days, 300 million views in 22 days, and 500 million views in just under 48 days. Additionally, her debut solo album, Rosie, was released at midnight on Friday, marking another milestone in her successful career.
