DAY6 member Dowoon has sparked controversy after posting a video of himself drumming while wearing a military uniform. The incident has drawn sharp criticism, particularly in light of the tense political climate in South Korea following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of emergency martial law.
Many social media users took issue with Dowoon’s decision to wear military attire while practicing the drums, feeling it was inappropriate given the current situation. Dowoon shared the video on his Instagram account, where he was seen drumming in full military gear. The post quickly became a target of online backlash, with internet users accusing him of making light of the political turmoil.
JYP Entertainment Responds: “We Will Take Legal Action Against False Rumors and Malicious Defamation”
The controversy intensified as some speculated that Dowoon’s choice of attire could be seen as endorsing martial law. South Korea is currently experiencing heightened political tension, with military forces deployed across the country.
In response to the growing backlash, JYP Entertainment, the agency representing DAY6, stated on Monday. The company denied the allegations, saying, “False information about DAY6’s Dowoon is being recklessly spread and amplified.” They continued, “We will take strong legal action against the creation and malicious spread of unfounded rumors and defamatory content.”
The agency also warned, “If the spread of false information that harms the artist’s reputation continues, we will take legal action.”
At the time, Dowoon reportedly wore the military uniform because of a scheduling conflict between his reserve training and a practice session. However, as the controversy gained momentum, his agency clarified the situation and addressed the false rumors.
Meanwhile, DAY6 is celebrating its 9th anniversary this year.
DAY6 will hold a special concert, 2024 DAY6 Special Concert: The Present, at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul, on December 20 and 21. The final performance on December 21 will be streamed live online through the Beyond LIVE platform for a fee.
