Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly set to appear in Season 3 of Squid Game.

On Wednesday, South Korean outlet OSEN reported that DiCaprio will appear in the highly anticipated third season of Squid Game, which will be released later this year. The report claims that DiCaprio has already completed filming for his part, though his screen time is expected to be limited. Due to potential spoilers, details about his character are being kept under wraps.

Earlier, DiCaprio had expressed his admiration for Squid Game. A well-known story recounts his excitement upon learning that the show’s cast would attend the 2021 Los Angeles LACMA Art + Film Gala.

In fact, DiCaprio reportedly turned down Lauren Sanchez’s invitation to rush off and take a photo with Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae. The picture, later shared on Lee Jung Jae’s Instagram, quickly went viral.

During a TV appearance, Lee Jung Jae revealed that DiCaprio was the one who suggested taking the photo. He recalled, “To be honest, he (DiCaprio) was the one who asked to take the picture first.” Lee Jung Jae explained, “He was so enthusiastic, saying, ‘I watched Squid Game,’ and then he started sharing his thoughts. It wasn’t just small talk. He talked in detail about the themes, the performances, the costumes, the direction, the music, and the ensemble. It was clear that he genuinely enjoyed the show.”

In September 2022, during a press conference at the Westin Josun Hotel in Seoul—celebrating the show’s six Emmy wins—Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed that when asked about the possibility of a Hollywood star joining the cast in Season 3, he shared, “Leonardo DiCaprio personally told us he is a fan of Squid Game. We even discussed among ourselves whether we should reach out to him. Should we ask?”

As rumors of DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game Season 3 gained traction, Netflix took a firm stance, denying the claims. A spokesperson for the streaming giant stated, “We’ve also heard the rumors about DiCaprio appearing, but it’s not true,” firmly putting the speculation to rest. Moreover, no international media outlets have reported any confirmation of his involvement.

Whether DiCaprio will ultimately appear in Squid Game Season 3 remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Netflix released a teaser for the upcoming season with the message, “Watch Squid Game on Netflix, June 27, 2025.” However, the post was quickly removed shortly afterward.
