Taiwanese actor Darren Wang is facing arrest over accusations of evading his mandatory military service, according to a shocking report by Taiwan’s ET Today.

The New Taipei City Prosecutor’s Office, acting on a tip about violations of military service laws, launched a police raid on Tuesday. The operation led to the arrest of 11 individuals, including Darren Wang.

Authorities allege that Darren Wang forged a medical diagnosis to avoid fulfilling his military duty. The investigation is still underway as officials continue to probe the case.

In Taiwan, all male citizens between 18 and 36 must serve one year in the military. Those caught manipulating the system to avoid or delay service can face up to five years in prison.

In addition to the accusations, reports suggest that Wang paid approximately 1 million New Taiwan dollars (roughly $30,520) to hire a private group that specializes in helping individuals evade conscription.

Darren Wang, who debuted in 2008, has faced speculation throughout his career about receiving special treatment due to his celebrity status. Rumors also circulated among his college classmates that he had been frequently absent from classes, sparking further suspicions that he may have used his fame to dodge his military responsibilities.

In response, Darren Wang’s agency stated, “Both education and military service are important steps for personal growth. We are working to ensure everything proceeds smoothly.”

Darren Wang himself has remarked in the past, “I will enlist when the time comes.”

Now 33 years old, Darren Wang rose to fame with his breakout role in the 2015 film Our Times. He has since solidified his place in the entertainment industry by starring in movies like A Better Tomorrow 4 (2018) and Fall in Love at First Kiss (2019).
