The police have requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of singer Wheesung, who was found dead on Monday.

On Tuesday, the Gwangjin Police in Seoul announced that they had referred the case to the National Forensic Service (NFS) to establish the precise cause and time of death of Wheesung (real name Choi Wheesung).

The singer was discovered in cardiac arrest on Monday at an apartment in the Gwangjin District of Seoul and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A syringe was reportedly found at the scene. There is no evidence of foul play or signs of external intrusion.

On Wednesday morning, the NFS will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, including whether drug use played a role in his passing.

The family has announced that they will not hold a separate memorial service and will proceed with cremation following the autopsy.

Wheesung had previously been under investigation by police in 2020 after collapsing from an overdose of a sleep anesthetic. He was later indicted for habitual use of propofol and violating drug laws and was sentenced to a suspended prison term the following year.

Wheesung, who debuted in 2002, became hugely popular, with hit songs like “Can’t We” and “With Me” making him a household name in South Korea.

The sudden news of his death has shocked fans and fellow celebrities alike, who are deeply mourning his loss.
