Britney Spears Sparks Trouble—Literally—on Private Jet

Pop icon Britney Spears is drawing criticism after publicly calling out a flight attendant on Instagram, just one day after reportedly receiving a federal warning for smoking on a private jet.

According to People magazine, Spears, 43, was briefly investigated on May 22 for allegedly lighting a cigarette during a flight from Mexico to Los Angeles. Upon landing, she was issued a formal warning for violating federal aviation regulations.

Spears took her to Instagram the next day to share her version of the events. In a short video, she appeared laughing and holding a bottle of alcohol onboard the plane. “Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” she wrote.

Spears admitted to drinking vodka for the first time and said she asked for a cigarette. “My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!,” she explained, adding that she assumed smoking was permitted on the flight.

While she offered a brief apology “to anyone I may have offended,” Spears also accused the flight attendant of reporting her to authorities, saying she felt “embarrassed” and that the crew member disliked her from the moment she stepped on the plane.

JSX, the airline operating the flight, has not commented publicly. Sources told People that this is not Spears’ first incident involving in-flight behavior.

The controversy has sparked renewed concern about Spears’ public conduct, particularly as she continues to navigate life under increased public scrutiny following the end of her conservatorship.
