Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stutt will play Ron Weasley.

The newly cast actors are all relatively unknown newcomers, except Stanton, who starred as Matilda in the West End production of Matilda: The Musical from 2023 to last year.

Massive Casting Call Draws Over 30,000 Applicants

Series co-producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Myrold shared their excitement about the casting choices. “We’re beyond excited to have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” they said. “The talent of these three incredible young actors is truly outstanding, and we can’t wait for the world to see the magic they’ll bring to the screen together.” The producers also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of young actors who participated in the casting process.

According to Variety, HBO launched an open casting call last fall that attracted over 30,000 applicants.

Production on the series is set to begin this summer, with the show expected to premiere on HBO’s streaming platform next year.

Since its debut in 1997, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series has become a global cultural phenomenon, inspiring films, stage productions, video games, theme park attractions, and a vast array of merchandise.

In a 2017 report, The Financial Times revealed that by the 20th anniversary of the original book’s release, the Harry Potter franchise had raked in an estimated $25 billion.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, who became international stars through their iconic roles in the original Harry Potter film series, skyrocketed to fame. Now, fans around the world are eagerly waiting to see if the new trio in the upcoming TV series will follow in their footsteps and achieve similar levels of stardom.
