Namkoong Min Gets Real About Rejection in His Acting Past—and Fans Are Touched

In the upcoming episode of SBS’s Whenever Possible, fans will get a heartfelt glimpse into Namkoong Min’s early career struggles, offering a stark contrast to his current success. The actor candidly opens up about his challenges in the entertainment industry, a side of him many fans might not be familiar with.

The latest episode features Namkoong Min, Jeon Yeo Been, and Lee Seol as guests, joining hosts Yoo Jae Suk and Yoo Yeon Seok for an insightful and engaging conversation.

Recently honored with a prestigious acting award, Namkoong Min will share an emotional memory from his past: being cut from a project after a script reading. The actor recalls his tough days early in his career, noting, “When I visit places like Yeouido, I remember how often I was scolded at the broadcasting station.”

Yoo Jae Suk, empathizing with Namkoong Min’s experience, responds, “Directors could be really intimidating back then.” He then asks, “You went through a long period of hardship, didn’t you, Gung Min?”

Namkoong Min drops a bombshell, saying, “I was once cut after a script reading,” a statement that leaves everyone in shock.

This revelation is shocking given his current stature as an award-winning actor who is now celebrated for his remarkable performances.

The Harsh Reality of Showbiz

Reflecting on the painful experience, Namkoong Min shares, “After the script reading, we all went out for a meal, but I was the only one cut. It was heartbreaking to see the others on TV later,” recounting the moment with incredible poise.

He also discusses the unique bond he shares with others who’ve navigated similar struggles in the industry, saying, “When I see my fellow survivors at award shows, I think, You made it too, and it moves me.”

Yoo Jae Suk chimes in, “There’s a special connection between those who’ve gone through the tough times together,” acknowledging the deep and lasting bond among those who’ve weathered the ups and downs of showbiz.

In another heartfelt segment, Yoo Yeon Seok shares his own experiences during his early days in the industry. He talks about how he coped with the emotional rollercoaster of auditions.

“I have so many memories of auditioning in Yeouido. It’s the place where I’d go to clear my head and soothe my bruised ego after a tough audition,” Yoo Yeon Seok recalls.

He adds, “If I were feeling down after an audition, my manager would ask, ‘Want to go here?’ These small acts of kindness helped me get through the tough times.”
