The distribution company D Station Co., Ltd. has officially announced that the upcoming animated feature The King of Kings, directed by Jang Seong Ho, will premiere in theaters on July 16.

On Friday, the studio launched its promotional campaign by unveiling the film’s official poster and main trailer, teasing audiences with a glimpse into a sweeping, time-traveling biblical epic.

A Time-Traveling Tale of Faith, Family, and Rediscovery

The King of Kings follows famed Charles Dickens and his youngest son, Walter, on a miraculous journey back 2,000 years into biblical history.

The story reimagines the life of Jesus Christ through a visually arresting and emotionally resonant lens, positioning the film as a standout in the growing world of K-animation.

The newly released poster reflects the film’s central theme: “A miraculous time journey back 2,000 years.” It features Dickens and his family surrounded by iconic biblical figures, Jesus, his disciples, King Herod, and the High Priest, set against a rich historical backdrop. At the heart of the image is Jesus with outstretched arms, accompanied by the tagline: The greatest story ever told.

The trailer opens with a playful scene: Walter, fascinated only by kings and royalty, is swept into a different kind of story about The King of Kings. Fans are treated to beautifully animated retellings of key biblical moments, including: the Nativity, Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, his first meetings with the disciples, and miracles such as walking on water.

The tone shifts dramatically with the line, “To some, He was a miracle. To others, a threat,” hinting at the conflicts Jesus faced and adding a compelling emotional arc to the film.

The film’s theme song, “Live Like That,” was composed by Kellys Collins, Tim Nichols, and Matt Wynn, and produced by Keith Thomas. The emotional power of the film is further elevated by Kristin Chenoweth, the Tony and Emmy Award–winning Broadway star, who lends her voice to the soundtrack.

Audiences will be able to enjoy the film in two versions: An English-language version featuring a star-studded voice cast including Kenneth Branagh, Oscar Isaac, and Uma Thurman, and a Korean-language dubbed version starring acclaimed Korean actors Lee Byung Hun, Jin Sun Kyu, and Lee Ha Nee.

As a striking example of Korean animation’s growing global presence, The King of Kings is set to captivate audiences worldwide when it hits theaters this July.
