A horrifying accident occurred in an apartment complex where a car struck three elementary school students.
The female driver in her 50s, who was driving the vehicle, claims it was due to sudden unintended acceleration.
According to the police on June 4, at around 4:37 PM, a compact car driven by a woman in her 50s charged onto the sidewalk in an apartment complex in Nokyang-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, and hit three elementary school students aged 9 to 10.
Due to the accident, a 10-year-old girl suffered severe leg injuries. Two other children, a 10-year-old and a 9-year-old, also experienced ankle pain and received medical treatment at the hospital.
According to the investigation, the vehicle made a right turn after entering the apartment complex and suddenly charged onto the sidewalk. After hitting the children, it also crashed into a pillar in the complex.
Immediately after the accident, the driver claimed that it occurred due to sudden unintended acceleration.
Despite the driver’s claim of sudden acceleration, the police are investigating the possibility that the woman in her 50s caused the accident due to poor driving skills and are questioning witnesses about the circumstances of the accident.
Given that the accident occurred within an apartment complex, it is expected that footage from other vehicle’s dashcams will be secured. This would allow for verification of whether the brake lights were on at the time of the accident.
