Wedding Called Off Over Chore Dispute: Who’s Right?

Michelle Kang Views

A man who was planning to marry his penniless pharmacist girlfriend, despite having saved $726,602 has declared their break-up.

The man intended to support his girlfriend who was unable to save money due to her poor family background. Despite her being a pharmacist, he eventually gave up on the idea of marriage. The reason for their break-up was her demand for an equal share of housework.

Recently, a post from the anonymous online community for office workers, Blind, has been shared on various online communities and social media platforms.

The title of the post was “I Broke Up With My Girlfriend, Who I Was About to Marry. Who’s Fault Is It?”

The writer shared, “I had saved about $726,602 through successful investments and parental support so we can be financially stable.” He added, “I was looking for a newlywed home near my girlfriend’s workplace, who is a salaried pharmacist, so she could live comfortably for about 2-3 years.”

“But suddenly, my girlfriend said, ‘Since I’m a professional, I have a lot to worry about. And you, with having plenty of time (public official), let’s split the housework 50-50.’ That made me angry, so I broke off the engagement,” he added.

He mentioned he even bought her plane tickets for trips overseas to accommodate her financial instability, But he couldn’t bear a 50-50 split in housework.

“I thought of a 20-80 housework split,” he revealed. This is interpreted as being aware of the fact that the financial split was 100-0.

Opinions differed on this issue. Those who support the man said, “If the man brings in $726,602 and she brings in $0, she should think about doing more housework. She’s shameless.”

On the other hand, critics said, “You can’t hire a housekeeper with $726,602. They should at least do 50-50 housework. There’s a difference in salary, too.”
