A video of a woman recklessly attacking monkeys with a slingshot has sparked widespread outrage online.
According to a report by Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday on Monday, the incident occurred at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, home to the popular baby hippo, Moo Deng. The footage shows a visitor using a slingshot to target the animals.
The video, which has gone viral, has prompted calls for severe punishment for the woman seen in the clip. Thai TikTok user @patcharida_36 shared the video on October 20, drawing significant attention to the incident.
In the footage, the woman, dressed in a lavender shirt and black pants, is seen firing a slingshot into the air. Accompanied by what appeared to be family members, her companions not only failed to intervene with her but also expressed admiration after each shot.
Despite other visitors repeatedly shouting for them to stop, the woman and her group reportedly ignored the pleas.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the woman wielding the slingshot was Chinese and had visited the zoo with friends and family.
Zoo Officials: “Legal Action Not Ruled Out”
The zoo authorities announced they would investigate the incident further but did not rule out legal action.
Reactions include comments such as, “How could the staff not intervene while she was shooting a slingshot?” and “We need to identify her and ensure she faces punishment.” Others expressed outrage, stating, “How can anyone be so cruel to defenseless animals?” and “She seems like a sociopath or a psychopath.”
