Kim Ye Ji, the silver medalist in the 10m air pistol event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has announced a break from her competitive shooting career. She will pause her participation in competitions until next season.

On Wednesday, Kim’s agency, Plfil, revealed that she has officially terminated her contract with her team, Imsil County Hall.

The agency explained, “After she completed her participation in last month’s National Sports Festival, there are no more scheduled competitions for the remainder of the year. Given that the next competitive season begins in April, we mutually agreed to end the contract early.”

Originally contracted through December, Kim opted for early termination rather than renewing her agreement with Imsil County Hall.

According to Imsil County Hall, Kim submitted her resignation on October 16, citing her desire to focus on areas she had neglected, particularly raising her children.

Despite submitting her resignation, Kim’s decision does not mark the end of her athletic career.

Her agency stated, “Kim Ye Ji will take a short break to focus on her personal life and family while preparing for a more significant leap forward in her career. She will continue her public activities to promote the sport of shooting.”

A Break for Growth and Development

Kim herself stated, “As an Olympic medalist, I’m temporarily pausing my competitive journey to spend more time with my child and embrace my role as a mother. I hope people will understand this break as part of my process to grow an develop further as an athlete.”

Although there is no set date for her to go to competitive shooting, her agency confirmed that Kim is actively considering returning as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Kim has remained active in public engagement to raise the profile of shooting, a less widely followed sport. She has taken part in photoshoots with high-end fashion brands and prominent magazines. On November 1, Kim was also appointed as the first-ever ambassador for Tesla Korea, further expanding her visibility and influence outside of sports.
