Actor Yoo Ah In Sells His Itaewon Mansion for $4.8 Million Amid Legal Troubles

Actor Yoo Ah In, who was sentenced to prison in a recent trial for habitual drug use, has quickly sold his detached house in Itaewon, Seoul.

According to a report by BizHankook on Friday, Yoo Ah In’s Itaewon property, which he had previously showcased on the popular South Korean variety show I Live Alone, was sold for 6.3 billion won (approximately $4.8 million) on November 20.

In February 2016, Yoo Ah In purchased a detached house in the Itaewon neighborhood of Yongsan District, Seoul. The property, which includes a basement and three above-ground floors, spans 3,620 square feet (337㎡) of land and has a total building area of 4,500 square feet (418.26㎡). Yoo Ah In bought the property through his agency, Yu Company Limited, for 5.8 billion won (around $4.1 million).

It was reported that Yoo Ah In initially hoped to sell the property for 8 billion won (approximately $5.7 million) but ultimately agreed to a significantly reduced price. The house was sold for 6.3 billion won, cutting 1.7 billion won (about $1.2 million) off the asking price in what appears to have been a quick sale.

Afterward, Yoo Ah In moved to the upscale neighborhood of Hannam-dong, and amid his ongoing legal issues regarding chronic drug use, he listed the Itaewon house for sale.

Although the house was listed at 8 billion won three years ago, it was ultimately sold for 6.3 billion won (roughly $4.5 million), leading to speculation that the price reduction was part of an expedited sale.

The buyer’s identity has not yet been disclosed, as the ownership transfer has yet to be officially registered with the court. Additionally, the property was reportedly sold as a violating structure. Yoo Ah In had expanded the house illegally by adding 10.8 square meters (116 square feet) to the first floor without proper permits, including installing windows (frames) not authorized by local authorities.

The Yongsan District Office immediately informed Yoo Ah In’s agency, Yu Company Limited, of the need to restore the property to its original state. Still, more than seven years later, the illegal modification remains unresolved.

As a result, the new owner will likely face fines or be required to restore the property to its original condition.

Meanwhile, Yoo Ah In is facing severe drug-related charges. He is accused of using the anesthetic propofol 181 times between 2020 and 2022 and of illegally obtaining sleeping pills under another person’s name 44 times in 2021 and 2022. In his first trial, Yoo Ah In was sentenced to one year in prison. He is awaiting his second trial, scheduled for December 24.
