Ulsan Coast Guard

A powerful image of a Coast Guard officer jumping into the freezing waters of the sea in nothing but a thin uniform to save a woman has touched many people.

On Thursday afternoon, the Ulsan Coast Guard reported that the CCTV monitoring center in Ulsan’s Dong-gu district had alerted emergency services around 2:28 PM after observing someone fall into the sea at Namjin Beach. A woman in her 20s, still wearing her shoes, was found struggling in the water.

Just 10 minutes after receiving the emergency call, the Ulsan Coast Guard’s Bangojin Police Station located the woman, who had drifted approximately 20 meters from the shore.

A Coast Guard officer, dressed in a blue uniform and equipped only with swimming goggles and a snorkel, was immediately seen entering the icy waters to carry out the rescue. Thanks to his quick and decisive action, the woman was safely pulled from the water and transferred to an awaiting ambulance. She was then transported to Ulsan University Hospital for further care.

Although the woman showed signs of hypothermia, her condition was not life-threatening. The Coast Guard is investigating the circumstances surrounding her falling into the sea.
