Gabriel Freitas, the Brazilian influencer who became famous for his dramatic weight loss on a reality TV show, passed away at the age of 37.

Gabriel Freitas died of a heart attack on December 30 while taking a nap in bed.

The news of his death was revealed on January 2 by his close friend Ricardo Gouvea, who posted about it on social media.

Ricardo wrote, “Gabriel passed away in his sleep and did not suffer. He left us while striving to overcome his challenges. He fought until the end. He was a powerful person, and I deeply respect him. Gabriel was truly a kind and good-hearted man.”

Gabriel gained fame in 2017 after appearing on the Brazilian reality show Programa do Gugu in the segment Virou Outra Pessoa (Becoming a Different Person).

Millions of viewers watched as he shared his journey of gaining weight during his teenage years and later achieving dramatic weight loss through a balanced diet and exercise.

Standing approximately 193 cm tall, Gabriel weighed over 318 kg in 2015, placing him in critical condition.

However, after appearing on the show, he lost nearly 114 kg within a year and a half.

The program’s host, Gugu Liberato, praised Gabriel, saying, “Gabriel is showcasing his handsome looks thanks to his weight loss. He has gone further than most people could imagine.”

Unfortunately, Gabriel’s happiness was short-lived. Not long after, the deaths of his father and brother left him in deep shock, and he began to regain weight. Eventually, his weight reached approximately 381 kg, leaving him unable to stand on his own.

In October 2023, Gabriel made a renewed commitment to lose weight.

He wrote on social media, “No matter what happens, with God’s help, I will get out of bed by November 1.”

His post received an outpouring of support, with followers commenting, “I believe in you. You’ve got this!” and “Stay strong; you can do it!”

However, he sadly passed away before achieving his goal.
