Amid the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, California, a man who lost his home was brought to tears after reuniting with his dog, believed to have perished in the blaze.
On Monday, NBC reported the story of Casey Colvin, a heavily affected Palisades area resident, where the wildfire first began and caused extensive damage.
Colvin lost his dog Oreo on January 7. When evacuation orders were issued on the first day of the fire, Colvin was at work and rushed home, worried about his two dogs, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika.
However, when he arrived, the fire had grown too dangerous for him to enter the house. Colvin pleaded with firefighters to rescue his dogs, and they successfully retrieved Tika Tika Tika from the home.
The other dog, Oreo, fled in fear and disappeared. Hours later, the fire reduced Colvin’s house and nearby properties to ashes.
Determined to find Oreo, Colvin searched the area for several days. His story caught attention after an NBC News correspondent shared it on social media.
Colvin expressed that he didn’t care about losing the house, emphasizing that his dog was what truly mattered to him. He shared that he had adopted Oreo as a rescue and believed such a situation shouldn’t happen to him. As the story gained attention online, reports indicated that Oreo was still alive.
Reports indicated that Oreo had been spotted sleeping among the debris of a neighbor’s home or wandering the neighborhood streets. Colvin even enlisted the help of a professional dog tracker.
Finally, after five days of searching, Colvin was reunited with Oreo on Sunday. After receiving a tip about Oreo’s whereabouts, Colvin rushed to where he finally found his dog.
Colvin and Oreo are reunited, and a house’s front door separates them. When Colvin called Oreo’s name, the dog couldn’t contain his joy and ran to his owner.
Colvin embraced Oreo tightly, repeatedly saying, “Oh my god, you’re alive!” as he cried tears of relief. Overcome with joy, he hugged Oreo and ran around, shouting, “You’re alive! Thank you, God.”
The emotional reunion between Colvin and Oreo has garnered over 4.5 million views online and has become a viral sensation.
