A tragic incident unfolded at an elementary school in Daejeon, South Korea, where a first-grade girl was fatally stabbed.

On Monday, Daejeon police and emergency services reported that both the young student and a female teacher were found unconscious and suffering from stab wounds in the audiovisual room on the second floor of the school, located in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu.

After attending an after-school care program, the girl was supposed to attend her art academy. A missing person report was filed when the academy contacted her parents to say she hadn’t arrived.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the first-grade girl and the teacher, who had been stabbed in the neck and arms. Both were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, the young girl was later pronounced dead.

The teacher, whose injuries were serious but not life-threatening, is reported to be in stable condition.

According to police, the teacher admitted to the crime shortly before entering surgery.

It was revealed that the teacher had been on leave for some time due to issues such as depression but had returned to work at the end of last year.

A police spokesperson stated, “Once the suspect completes surgery, we will continue investigating to determine the exact motive behind this tragic crime.”

In the aftermath, the elementary school where the incident occurred decided to close for the day on Tuesday for emergency measures.
