A tragic traffic accident in Yangchon-eup, Gimpo City, South Korea, has resulted in the deaths of an elderly couple in their 70s.
The couple, who were driving a Kia Morning compact car, crashed into a traffic signal pole, causing both to experience cardiac arrest. Despite being rushed to the hospital, they sadly passed away from their injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. In response to the family’s concerns about a potential vehicle defect, local authorities have requested an analysis of the Event Data Recorder (EDR), a device that records crash data, from the National Forensic Service, a government agency that handles forensic investigations.
The couple had recently purchased the Kia Morning as a used car. Authorities are also reviewing the vehicle’s black box and other available evidence to determine the cause of the crash, but no conclusions have been reached so far.
A police spokesperson said, “We’ve reviewed the vehicle’s black box data, but the exact cause of the accident is still unclear at this time.”
