What was once a humble, everyday meal in Korea is now gaining global recognition. Dak Galbi, a flavorful Korean stir-fried chicken dish, has officially earned a spot among the world’s top 10 stir-fries.
On November 15, TasteAtlas released its list of the 100 Best Stir-Fried Dishes in the World, and Dak Galbi made its mark, ranking 10th with an impressive 4.4 out of 5 rating. Described by TasteAtlas as “Korean-style stir-fried chicken,” the dish is made by stir-frying chicken with an array of ingredients, including cabbage, rice cakes, carrots, chili peppers, and sweet potatoes in a large cast-iron pan, often prepared right in front of customers. This vibrant and interactive dining experience is what makes Dak Galbi a standout.
But Dak Galbi wasn’t the only Korean dish to make a splash. Several other beloved Korean stir-fries also earned spots in the global rankings. Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), Nakji Bokkeum (stir-fried octopus), Dak Bokkeumtang (spicy chicken stew), Ojingeochae Bokkeum (stir-fried shredded squid), and Gomyeolchi Bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies) also made the list, ranking at 21st, 33rd, 41st, 52nd, and 87th, respectively.
Korean stir-fried cuisine continues to capture the international spotlight, with Dak Galbi, Japchae, and Nakji Bokkeum proving that Korean food has a place among the world’s culinary elite.
The top spot on the list was Peru’s Lomo Saltado (4.5 rating), a stir-fried beef dish influenced by Asian flavors, traditionally served with rice and crispy French fries. Right behind it was China’s Yubao Sha (4.5 rating), a delicious stir-fried shrimp dish.
Rounding out the top five are Thailand’s Pad Krapow (4.5), Indonesia’s comforting Nasi Goreng Ayam (4.5), and Ethiopia’s versatile Tips (4.5). From the aromatic basil-infused meats of Pad Krapow to the rich, festive flavors of Tips, these dishes show that stir-fries have no borders and are celebrated across the globe.
