An Air India flight en route to London crashed Thursday afternoon near Ahmedabad Airport in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The incident took place in the Meghaninagar neighborhood, just outside the airport perimeter.
According to a report from India TV, the plane was carrying 242 passengers at the time of the crash. Eyewitnesses described seeing thick plumes of smoke rising from the area shortly after the incident.
The aircraft had departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and was headed for London, United Kingdom.
As of now, authorities have not confirmed the cause of the crash or the number of casualties. Aviation officials and emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene and are conducting search and rescue operations.
