China’s Chang’e-6 Makes Historic Landing

James Yoo Views

China’s lunar probe Chang’e-6 is the world’s first probe that has successfully landed on the far side of the moon.

According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that Chang’e-6 landed on the Apollo impact crater, located northeast of the Aitken Basin in the lunar south pole, at 6:23 AM.

With this, China has set a record as the fourth country to land on the moon–twice on the far side and twice on the near side of the moon.

On May 3, Chang’e-6 was launched with the target of being the first in the world to collect samples of soil and rocks from the far side of the moon.

CNSA reported on May 8, under the control of the Beijing Space Flight Control Center (BACC), the Chang’e-6 probe completed its lunar approach and smoothly entered the lunar orbit.

The Chang’e-6 will also carry out other experiments for approximately two days.

If the Chang’e-6 succeeds in collecting samples, this will be a first for humanity.
