The iPhone 17 Pro, expected to launch this fall, is set to feature a completely revamped camera module. According to reports, significant updates are in store for the entire iPhone 17 lineup this year.
Industry insiders believe the iPhone 17 Pro may adopt a design similar to Google’s Pixel phones, a shift from its current look. Initially, rumors suggested the iPhone 17 Pro would closely resemble Google’s Pixel 9 and earlier models. However, more credible reports indicate that the design isn’t finalized yet, with Apple still evaluating possible changes.
On Friday, tech tipster Majin Bu shared a rendering of the expected iPhone 17 Pro design on his X (formerly Twitter) account. According to Bu, “From what I’ve heard, the iPhone 17 Pro appears to keep the same camera array as the current prototype, but with changes to the size, the flash placement, and the positioning of the LiDAR sensor.”
The newly revealed renderings show that the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear camera module is much larger and oriented vertically, a departure from the Pixel phones’ horizontal layout. Unlike the Pixel 9’s linear camera setup, the iPhone 17 Pro will retain the same configuration seen in earlier iPhone Pro models.
PhoneArena commented, “While the Pixel 9 keeps its camera module slim and sleek, the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear camera array looks bulky and may feel awkward in hand, which could affect its grip.”
In addition to the new rear camera design, another key update to the iPhone 17 lineup is introducing the iPhone 17 Air. Set to replace the iPhone 17 Plus, the iPhone 17 Air’s most notable feature will be its significantly thinner profile.
According to the latest reports, the iPhone 17 Air will measure just 6.25mm in thickness. If these reports are accurate, the iPhone 17 Air will surpass the iPhone 6, which currently holds the record as the thinnest iPhone at 6.9mm. This would make the iPhone 17 Air the thinnest iPhone ever released.
