During his stay at Mar-a-Lago, a luxury resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Shinsegae Group Chairman Jeong Yong Jin met with several influential figures who expressed interest in the current situation in South Korea.
When questioned about the concern among U.S. figures regarding the situation in Korea, Jeong reported that figures such as Donald Trump Jr. and his close associates had expressed interest. He reassured them of South Korea’s resilience, advising them to trust and be patient, believing the nation will soon regain stability.
Jeong returned to South Korea on Sunday through Incheon International Airport and shared these insights with the press.
Invited by Donald Trump Jr., Jeong spent five nights and six days at Mar-a-Lago, which serves as the residence of former U.S. President Donald Trump, from December 16. He returned home that afternoon.
Jeong explained that his visit to Mar-a-Lago was at the invitation of Donald Trump Jr. He added that Trump Jr. introduced him to many prominent individuals, allowing him to engage in lengthy discussions with a wide range of people.
Jeong mentioned that he met President-elect Donald Trump during his visit but did not disclose details about their conversation. He also noted that he had a brief encounter with Elon Musk, during which they only exchanged brief greetings.
Musk Meeting: Focus on Current Responsibilities
When questioned about Elon Musk’s interest in the situation in Korea, Jeong indicated that Musk did not seem particularly interested. He also mentioned that he was not in a position to comment on Trump’s views regarding the matter.
Addressing speculation about a potential private bridge role in the Trump administration, Jeong stated that he hasn’t considered such a role and emphasized that his current focus is on diligently fulfilling his business responsibilities.
When questioned about potential plans to expand his business operations in the U.S., Jeong responded that it was a business matter and expressed that he did not think it appropriate to discuss it in that setting.
He also declined to comment on whether he had received an official invitation to attend President-elect Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Jeong responded to inquiries about his potential attendance at the inauguration by stating that he had not yet received any direct contact. However, he expressed his willingness to participate if an invitation was extended following the organization of the government delegation.
Earlier, while meeting with reporters at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Jeong shared that he had met with Trump for about 10 to 15 minutes. They had a meal together during their meeting and engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics.
