Experts are calling this frog a one-in-a-hundred-thousand wonder. It’s so rare that it’s been dubbed the lucky charm frog. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that action?

The Moguranpia Aquarium in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, took to social media on Wednesday to announce they’re showcasing this cerulean cutie.

The aquarium is thrilled to introduce its sky-blue superstar to visitors starting today. Get ready for some serious Instagram moments!

From Chance Encounter to Viral Sensation

This aquatic A-lister was discovered by resident Masawa Shintaro, who generously donated it to the aquarium.

Shintaro stumbled upon this rare gem during his everyday routine.

Shintaro recalled that he was mowing grass in a rice field when this blue beauty jumped out. He stated that it was like a sapphire against the emerald backdrop. At first, he thought he’d discovered some exotic species!

Size-wise, our blue tree frog measures approximately 3 cm (about 1.2 inches), matching the size of its green cousins.

The Moguranpia Aquarium explained that this frog is the same species as common tree frogs, but a quirk in its chromatophore cells gave it this dreamy blue hue instead of the usual green.

Mother Nature’s Masterpiece: A Pigment Puzzle

Ever wondered why tree frogs are usually green? It’s all thanks to a mix of yellow and iridescent pigments.

But our sky-blue sensation is rocking a different look. It’s missing the yellow pigments, letting the blue from the iridescent chromatophores steal the show.

The odds of this happening in the wild are a mind-boggling 1 in 100,000.

In Japan, spotting one of these azure amphibians is said to bring good luck. No wonder they call it the lucky charm frog.

Shintaro, our lucky finder, is hoping his brush with this blue wonder brings some good vibes his way.
