As U.S. and Russian delegations begin negotiations aimed at ending the Ukraine war, former U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump referred to Zelenskyy as a “dictator without elections” in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. He wrote, “Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start.”

He also pointed out that while the U.S. has spent $200 billion more than Europe on supporting Ukraine, former President Joe Biden never insisted on equal contributions from European nations.

Trump also mentioned Zelenskyy‘s refusal to hold elections, noting that Zelenskyy‘s approval ratings in Ukraine have been low. He criticized Zelenskyy, stating that Zelenskyy “was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle.'” He further warned that as a dictator without elections, Zelenskyy needs to act quickly, or his country will cease to exist.

Regarding ceasefire negotiations, Trump emphasized that they are successfully negotiating to end the war with Russia, adding that this is something only Trump and his administration can achieve.

He also criticized Biden and Europe for failing to push for peace negotiations, stating that neither had done enough to resolve the conflict.

Trump concluded by stating that while he supports Ukraine, he believes Zelenskyy has been disastrous, noting that his country lies in ruins and millions of unnecessary deaths have occurred.

During a meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Trump pointed out that Ukraine has not held any elections since the war began. He suggested that if Ukrainians want a voice in the ongoing ceasefire talks, they should first demand, “Let’s hold our elections.”

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy, elected in 2019, has extended his term to nearly six years due to the imposition of martial law and the formation of a wartime cabinet following Russia’s invasion in 2022. The next presidential election was initially scheduled for March last year but has been postponed due to the ongoing conflict.
