Chef Kang Seung Won, also known as Triple Star, became embroiled in a personal life controversy during his appearance on Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars, and he has provided some updates on his recent activities.
On Thursday, Star News reported that starting Wednesday, Triple Star has officially returned to work at his restaurant, Trid, located in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul.
A representative from Trid confirmed that Triple Star had returned to work on Thursday as well, stating, “He has been coming in regularly. However, he may occasionally be absent if there are any other commitments.”
The restaurant has also started accepting reservations for December. On November 13, they will begin booking for Christmas dates, December 24 and 25. Furthermore, reservations for January will open on December 1.
Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding his personal life, reports indicate that Triple Star has remained dedicated to running his restaurant without disruptions.
The controversy began on October 30 when Dispatch published interviews with Triple Star’s ex-wife and former girlfriend, who raised several serious allegations, including infidelity, attempts to lobby for a Michelin-star job, and accusations of verbal abuse and threats.
At the time, Triple Star reportedly denied the allegations.
The police are investigating the matter, and Triple Star has disabled comments on his social media accounts.
Following the controversy, an internet user claimed to have filed a complaint against Triple Star for embezzlement. On November 1, the police confirmed they had begun a preliminary investigation into the embezzlement allegations.
Since the controversy broke on October 30, Triple Star refrained from publicly appearing for about a week, returning to the spotlight only on Tuesday.
There had been speculation that Triple Star might not attend the special pop-up event for the 2024 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants (A50BR), held Sunday at Sevit Island in Banpo, Seocho District, Seoul. However, he was seen at the event.
Chef Anh Sung Jae posted a photo on his social media where all the other chefs are smiling, but Triple Star is the only one with a severe expression, staring directly at the camera.
Meanwhile, Triple Star gained widespread recognition after finishing third place in Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars. However, following the personal life controversy, he has disabled comments on his social media account.
