Authorities have launched an investigation after multiple stray cat carcasses showing signs of abuse were discovered in Yeonsu District, Incheon, in South Korea.

On Wednesday, the Korean Animal Welfare Association reported that between January 25 and February 8, two stray cats were found dead and one injured at a park site in Yeonsu District, Incheon.

The deceased cats were found with their skin peeled off and their eyes protruding, while the injured cat was discovered with wire tied around its tail.

Based on witness statements, the Korean Animal Welfare Association suspects the abuse was human-inflicted and has filed a police report for a potential violation of animal cruelty laws.

The association also shared they had received reports of increasing hostility towards stray cats in the area and plans to request necropsies to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have confirmed that they have received the complaint and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
