A shocking incident involving two Korean Air pilots recently came to light, where a political debate between the crew members escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to industry sources, a Korean Air captain and co-pilot argued on Tuesday late last year while operating the Incheon-Brisbane route.
The altercation only ended when local Australian police were called to the scene. The captain sustained injuries severe enough to require hospitalization, while the co-pilot was also reported to have been injured. As a result, both pilots could not operate their next flight, prompting Korean Air to quickly assign replacement crew members to prevent disruptions to their operations.
In the aftermath, Korean Air convened a disciplinary committee to determine appropriate penalties. The captain and co-pilot directly involved in the altercation were terminated, while another captain at the scene was suspended for three months.
A Korean Air spokesperson said, “An unfortunate incident occurred at the hotel during the layover. However, no flights were scheduled for the following day, and we quickly assigned replacement crew members to ensure operations continued without disruption.” The airline also stressed that it has reinforced its internal guidelines and implemented additional training to prevent similar incidents in the future.
